Shutter Hardware - Cast HingesACME HINGE We also carry an economical line of unpainted cast steel hinges often referred to as “ACME” or Lull and Porter. These are designed to be mortised into the window jamb and edge of the shutter. They have a nice feature of locking in the open position. Also included are a set of shutter fasteners that will lock the shutter in the closed position if you have a wood sill to mount them. The hinges are cast using a somewhat brittle metal and care must be taken mounting these. Size is chosen based on the open width and throw. The throw is the distance from the casement to the edge of the shutter closest to the house. This is critical to clear the casement. The open width is the width of the hinge when in the open position as shown below. Use this dimension to allow clearance due to any trim molding, uneven house facing and shutter ventilation on the back side
Sold as a set of two left and two right(enough for one window)
Clark’s Tip Blind Hinge This is a similar material to the ACME, but it is mounted behind the shutter. That is probably why they are called a “blind hinge.”
